Lucerne-Cute, but Expensive

The first thing we learned about Switzerland is that it is not a place to go if you are trying to save money.  So keep that in mind if you are ever in the mood for army knives, clocks-of any kind or mountain views. Switzerland tops my list as a great European destination, but be prepared to pay for it. We thought prices for meals in Austria were expensive, but Switzerland took it to a whole new level. So to save money we had to get creative. For lunch that day we went to a coffee sandwich place--where you picked your meal like you were at the grocery then sat on little sofa type benches while you ate. No five star dining for us. Luckily, everything in Lucerne is within walking distance. So if you have two legs and want to see--it is all within your reach.

Ironically, the only place we needed to take public transportation to was the Swiss Transportation Museum. This museum is massive and has many sections --trains, automobiles, ships, planes and space. We arrived in the late afternoon--the tickets were half price because of this, so we saved a little money again. When we arrived at the ticket counter the museum ticket guy said, "You won't have time to see it all you'll have to pick just one area probably." Me and Ben exchanged glances and said that's okay we'll figure it out. After we left the ticket counter I said to Ben, "I think that was a challenge! He thinks us Hairgrove's can't see everything in 2 hours?" And Ben said, "He obviously doesn't know who he's dealing with!" So we accepted the challenge--and you know what...we did see everything! It is in times like that I think me and Ben would be good on the "Amazing Race." But then we have other times where we get lost (__place name of any European city in here__) and I think...hmm maybe we're not quite ready yet.

The dying lion of Lucerne, carved into natural rock, was created
in 1820 in memory of the Swiss heroes who gave
their lives at the Tuileries in Paris 1792.

As you can tell I use my hair as a scarf too!

Another foggy and cold day.

Ben is considering a swim.

There may be mountains out there...but we'll never know.

What it looks like in the Summer time.
Us by Chapel Bridge, built in 1333.

It features gable paintings. In 1993, the Chapel Bridge was
seriously damaged by fire, but was restored within eight months.

The Culture and Congress Center of Lucerne.

The Aion, the world's largest indoor rolling
ball clock sculpture.

Bucherer is a famous Swiss watch store.

Colorful paintings can be found on
many buildings.

The outside of the Swiss Transportation museum, and largest
transportation museum in all of Europe.

This tram looks familiar...I think we still ride these in Hungary.
:)

Outside the car museum building.

I like ski lifts...just don't make me ski down a mountain.

Plan your next alpine adventure here.

This submarine says Chicago on it.

Ben found a plane from Texas.

Simulated hang gliding. This is as close as
I will get to the real thing.

Doing a little maze.

Ben on a tilt circle thing.
