Not Hungry in Hungary

I haven't written much about the food yet, so here we go. The picture above it a traditional hungarian dish that consists of chicken, dumplings and a paprika sauce. Paprika is probably the most popular spice in Hungary and is used in a variety of dishes. Also sesame seeds are used for a variety of food especially desserts surprisingly enough. We were asked by our contact if we thought the food here is too spicy? We smiled and said no. Although food here has more spice than say in England, compared to TexMex it is not as spicy.

We have especially enjoyed the dessert here and the cappuccinos, and Ben loves the gundel pancakes (which are chocolate syrup over pancakes). The cappuccino's remind me a lot of the ones you would find in Italy, except here they put a ball of whip-cream in your cappuccino instead of just letting it float on top. It almost resembles a ball of ice cream at first. Our contacts love to offer us a coffee, cake or ice cream whenever we our out and about with them. With all the walking we've been doing-hopefully we won't gain too much weight! :)

Grocery shopping has been relatively easy, but it takes a while to figure out what things are. Ben accidentally bought some cottage cheese-mistaking it for yogurt. We are trying to make simple things for dinner-so if you have any ideas please let us know. Back in the States cooking was not our strong suit and we relied too much on takeout. So learning to cook more often is yet another new "challenge" here in Hungary for us.

  1. Good luck with the cooking guys! I seem to remember Ben cooking something delicious one of the times I visit but not sure what it was.
