Like all good trips...they eventually have to end. We left the hotel in Gernyeszeg (Gornesti) and headed back toward Hungary. Our first stop was the city of Marosvasarhely (Targu Mures) that had a large Orthodox church with a very pretty painted interior. We then worked our way toward the cultural center of the city. After we entered we were given a tour of the beautiful stained glass windows on display. We also looked at the concert hall and watched the orchestra practice. We explored around and found some tid bits about the history of the city.
We then went in search of a bathroom (this seems to be a common theme for us while on a trip). We found the ones at the cultural center but they had no toilet paper. We then decided to try McDonalds and ended up coming up short once again. We usually carry some tissues with us, but had forgotten this time. Sometimes there is a “communal roll” for everyone to use in the bathroom, other times a little lady hands you a few squares when you pay to enter, or in most cases you just pray they are supplied in the stalls. Long story short we just held it :). We then drove through a little town with an old church. We took some pictures and then continued on (this seems to be another theme of our travels). We also stopped near some “gypsy palaces” again to get everyone more pictures. We eventually stopped for a late lunch and took some group pictures to remember the trip. After we waited a long time at the border crossing we arrived in Debrecen in the middle of the afternoon. We were sad to depart from everyone. We had a great time and we will miss all the friends we have made through the program very much. We also recommend doing a tour like this if you ever get the chance. --Ben
