"I've always wanted to go to Switzerland to see what the army does with those wee red knives."
~Billy Connolly
We headed to Luzern (Lucerne) after leaving our short visit to Liechtenstein. We hopped on a train from Buchs with connections and ending up in Luzern. We had the time card for the stops with platform numbers and times. However, it didn't work out too well. We made the first connection and hopped on a train. The time card had a blank spot for the platform at that stop so we figured it out. It was the first double decker train we had ridden and it was pretty crowded. We were happy to find a couple of seats together and tried to relax for the hour or so ride. The ticket checker came by and we handed him our ticket and he acted like there was a problem. He said the first part of the ticket was okay but not the last. He explained that the train we were on was headed to Zurich. I whispered an obscenity and we had to pay another 18 Swiss Franks to get a transfer. Obviously we didn't figure it out :). We arrived in Zurich talked to information and then found the correct train to Luzern. We arrived around 7:30 and were definitly relieved to be in the right place.
Luzern was beautiful. Snow covered all the little medieval sights and it was very picturesque. We found our hotel after dragging our luggage in the snow for a little ways. We had a nice Italian dinner and then got some much needed rest for the next day. -by Ben
